Importing Images from WhatsApp Made Easy

We know the drill: Clients send images instead of proper scans, preferably directly via WhatsApp. Many lawyers use WhatsApp as a quick communication channel with their clients. But until now, continuing to work with these documents in the law firm was very time-consuming: How do the images get from the phone into the law firm software?

We have developed a free browser extension for WhatsApp Web that allows you to import images from WhatsApp Web directly into MaraDocs. Or download them.

We love real simplifications in everyday life and therefore make our privacy-compliant Image Exporter available for free to all WhatsApp Web users. You can therefore use the extension even if you don't have a MaraDocs account. (However, having one is definitely recommended 😀).

Install Browser Extension for Chrome

Currently, our extension is only available through the Chrome Web Store (free). In the Chrome Web Store, you can install the extension with just a few clicks for free for the Chrome browser and the Microsoft Edge browser.

The extension then adds a button in WhatsApp chats and allows you to import images from WhatsApp.

Open WhatsApp Web and Connect with Phone

To open WhatsApp Web, open WhatsApp Web in the Chrome browser. After connecting with your smartphone via the QR code, you can use WhatsApp Web in the browser.

How Easy the Import from WhatsApp Web Is with the Browser Extension

The browser extension adds a button to every opened WhatsApp chat and allows you to import images from WhatsApp. When you click the button, all visible images are added to the list of exportable images.

The button opens an additional function in WhatsApp Web that allows you to mark all visible images in a WhatsApp Web chat and either download them all at once or import them into MaraDocs.

Tip: If you received multiple images at once in a chat (so that WhatsApp doesn't show you all of them at once), click once on the image group. In the following view, all images are then displayed - now the browser extension also recognizes all images.

The MaraDocs Import opens MaraDocs in a new browser tab. There, the images are then automatically inserted and processed by MaraDocs as usual.

Export Chats from WhatsApp Web as PDF

With the browser extension, you can also export chats from WhatsApp Web as PDF. Simply click the button in WhatsApp Web and select "Export as PDF".

Unlike many other solutions, the Easy Image and Chat-Range Exporter for WA Web from MaraDocs allows exporting selected message ranges while preserving the original layout and formatting of the messages.

• Click on ChatPrinter
• Select start and end message
• Click on Print Range
• Select save location and save PDF file

Current Limitation (October 2025)

Please note that the length of message ranges is limited. From a certain length, WhatsApp Web changes too many elements in the message view and the browser extension is unable to export the message ranges correctly. In a future version of our free extension, we will fix this problem.

Privacy and Data Protection

It is important for us to emphasize that our browser extension only extracts image files from the chats. These images are only transmitted to MaraDocs when you have selected them and click the MaraDocs Import button.

• MaraDocs does not gain access to your WhatsApp messages.
• At no point does MaraDocs access your WhatsApp messages.
• The browser extension does not gain access to your WhatsApp messages and does not send any data to us or third parties.
