Fall 2025 Update - MaraDocs with Many New Features

We have been working intensively on a new version of MaraDocs over the past months and are excited to release and present the new features to you.

📋 Quick Overview

  • Processing speed increased – 25% faster
  • Undo changes – Undo/Redo function
  • Comprehensive keyboard shortcut support – Work much faster
  • More simultaneous uploads – Now up to 75 files per session
  • Select and move multiple pages – Organizing PDFs completely reimagined
  • PDFs are automatically processed – Even more intuitive with compression at the end
  • WhatsApp Import – Via browser extension
  • Keyboard shortcut operation – Work even faster
  • MaraDocs API – Integration into third-party software

Technical Improvements

Processing Speed Increased
SPEED

In connection with the transition to the MaraDocs API, we were also able to significantly increase processing speed again. The entire workflow from "email with attachments in" to "finished PDFs out" is on average 25% faster than in the previous version.

More Simultaneous Uploads
75 FILES

We have increased the limit for simultaneous uploads from 25 to 75. This means you can now optimize and combine up to 75 files in one session in MaraDocs.

MaraDocs API
API

We have developed the MaraDocs API, which enables integration into third-party software. We are currently in discussions with various providers of law firm software solutions to integrate MaraDocs more directly into case management.

From a technical perspective, we have rebuilt the MaraDocs App (what you use in the browser) so that it now fully uses the MaraDocs API.

For users, this already has the advantage that processing is now "resumable". This means that, for example, text recognition for a large PDF does not have to be waited for. After the (complete) upload, you could even close the browser and come back later: You would find the finished results.

In practical terms, this has particularly positive effects for use under poor network conditions (for example, mobile work on the train). As long as the file has made it to our server once, processing does not abort just because you have brief internet outages.

Changes in the MaraDocs Workflow

We are of course sticking with MaraDocs' proven Optimize, Combine, Download concept. However, we have made some adjustments. It is now even easier and more intuitive to get from importing client documents to downloading finished, optimized PDFs.

PDFs Are Now Automatically Processed
PDF

Previously, it was necessary to manually start the specific processing for an imported PDF. This led to some confusion, especially under Download: Nobody could really make much sense of the information "Processing not yet selected".

We have greatly simplified the system here: Imported PDFs are now automatically processed.

Note: The text recognition step can be manually aborted early for larger PDFs.

Auto-scroll to Last Imported Document
SCROLL

If there are already several documents listed under Optimize and you import more, MaraDocs will now automatically scroll to the last imported document. This significantly improves the clarity and user-friendliness of the app in our opinion.

Organizing PDFs Completely Reimagined
COMBINE

Multi-Page Selection and Moving

Under the Combine page, multiple pages can now be selected and moved simultaneously.

This works with the mouse: Simply select multiple pages at once using Shift + Click or Ctrl + Click and then move them to any location.

Or – even more elegantly – via keyboard shortcuts: Using the arrow keys, you can now very easily navigate through all displayed pages of all PDFs. Shift + Arrow key selects and Ctrl + Arrow key moves the selected pages.

Tipp: To move selected pages to a new PDF, simply use Shift + Ctrl + Down arrow.

Changes Under Combine Are Displayed for a Few Seconds

After moving individual or multiple pages under Combine, the affected pages are still displayed for a few seconds with a light color overlay. This way you can easily track what you actually clicked.

Tip: If you misclicked, you can undo the page via Ctrl + Z (or clicking the symbol).

Disabling Individual Pages Now Also Under Combine
DEACTIVATE

A feature rightfully requested by many MaraDocs users: You can now also disable individual pages under Combine. Especially in combination with the Undo function, we were able to implement this feature: If you misclick, the page is gone, but via Ctrl + Z (or clicking the symbol), it can be conveniently retrieved.

Shrinking PDFs Now Under Downloads
QUALITY

You can find the finished PDFs as usual under Download. Here you have the option for each result to choose between three quality modes, which have a direct impact on size.

  • Gray (very small and in grayscale)
  • Normal (should be sufficient for most applications)
  • HighQuality (high resolution, but significantly more megabytes)

Normal is selected by default.

Extracting (Partial) Documents from PDF Pages
EXTRACT

A very useful innovation in our view concerns the optional recognition and cropping of documents in individual PDF pages. Unlike images imported into MaraDocs, we don't assume that imported PDFs need to be adjusted in content.

Nevertheless, there are PDFs (often from clients) where you receive a PDF, but the pages are still not proper scans, but also photos of documents.

In this case, documents in individual pages of the PDF can now be recognized directly under Optimize in the Single Page View ( symbol) of the PDF documents. The original page of the PDF is then disabled and replaced by the result(s) of the document extraction. Of course, the found areas can also be manually adjusted again (as with normal images).

Improved: Manually Cropping Documents
CUT

We have made a small but nice change to manually cropping documents: Suppose an image contains two or more documents, then all crops on the original image can be adjusted via the Crop function ( symbol).

However, if you select the Crop function on a crop result, only this is displayed in the view.

Subtle detail: In the previous version, changing the crop always created an entirely new result. This had the disadvantage that an already completed sorting of this result under Combine was lost (the new crop result was simply displayed as a single, isolated page under Combine). In the new system, the assignment under Combine is retained.

Undo/Redo: Undo Changes
UNDO
REDO

We are proud and happy to be able to offer an Undo function (Undo / Redo) for many operations. You can currently undo (and of course restore) the following operations:

  • Disable / enable page
  • Move page
  • Split PDF at specific point
  • Rotate page
  • Delete individual documents (under Optimize)

Tip: Ctrl + Z for Undo and Ctrl + Y for Redo.

(Mac users use Cmd instead of Ctrl)

Keyboard Shortcut Operation
SHORTCUTS

We have introduced keyboard shortcuts throughout the app to make operation even faster. Here are some examples.

  • Ctrl + 1 / 2 / 3 switches between Optimize, Combine, Download
  • Ctrl + Z / Y Undo and Redo
  • Shift + Ctrl + Backspace (⌫) deletes all files in the current project (Clean up)
  • Shift + Ctrl + D downloads all finished files (only under Downloads)

(Mac users use Cmd instead of Ctrl)

A complete overview can be found here: All Keyboard Shortcuts

Larger Preview Images on Large Screens

Small change with big impact: We have added another preview size to be able to see more details when sorting on large screens, for example.

On large screens you now also see larger preview images

Please note that the large size is only displayed from a certain screen size/window width.

However, you can select all sizes via the keyboard shortcuts Ctrl +/-.

WhatsApp Import via Browser Extension
WHATSAPP

We have developed a browser extension that allows you to very easily import images from WhatsApp chats directly into MaraDocs.

The browser extension adds an additional function in WhatsApp Web that allows you to select individual images and send them to MaraDocs.

Completely independent of MaraDocs, the extension also allows exporting a selected range of a chat history from WhatsApp Web (PDF export).

The extension is available free of charge for Chrome or Microsoft Edge browser.

More info about the extension in its own blog post: WhatsApp Import via Browser Extension

MaraDocs Creates Optimized PDFs from Client Documents

If you receive images instead of PDFs from clients, you no longer need to convert them manually. MaraDocs handles the complete process – fast, reliable, and without quality loss.

  • Simply import entire emails
  • all images are automatically analyzed and extracted
  • as a result, you receive optimized PDFs

MaraDocs - as if the client had used a scanner app.
